Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar
February 18th, 2010
Lindsey at Decapo Press contacted me awhile ago to see if I wanted to review Isa and Terry’s newest book Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar and I jumped at the chance! I’m a huge cookie addict and I wanted a chance to make as many cookies as possible.
Cowboy Cookies
The very first cookie I wanted to try were the Cowboy Cookies. I’ve purchased a few expensive kinds in Whole Foods before but have never made my own. They came out so good. They were chock full of ingredients, crispy and so delicious. I ended up making them for a local animal rights fundraiser and they were gobbled up before I even had a chance to get t0 the cookie table myself!
Espresso Chip Oatmeal Cookie
I think these cookies were my favorite from all that I baked. Everyone I let get near these delicious espresso morsels were in love with them. I still get request to make them again from certain family members and I’ll happily oblige them because I love them so. These cookies ended up going to an all vegan cookie swap at my local vegan group that I’m apart of and were part of my all vegan cookie tins that I give out as Christmas gifts.
Minonos
Remember Pepperidge Farm cookies called Milanos? Well you can make vegan versions yourself now! These were the most time consuming cookie I made from the bunch but they didn’t take too long to make. I love baking cookies that you get to shape and play around with in your hands. Its a nice challenge to get them all the same size to match up when you have to attach them together with melted chocolate later. These have a nice hint of orange zest in them that just brings the taste to the next level. Both my mom and Peter’s mom were big fans of these cookies. They also went into the gifted cookie tins.
Peanut Butter Blondies
I needed an extra “cookie” to finish my gifted cookie tins so I chose the Peanut Butter Blondies. The original recipe didn’t call for chocolate chips instead it called for a cup of peanuts to be added to the top of the blondies. Unfortunately I didn’t have any peanuts in the house but chocolate, as you can imagine, was a perfect substitute.
Blackstrap Gingersnaps
Hands down these were my husband favorite cookie. He’s a huge molasses fan especially if the molasses is in a cookie. I loved how gingery these were. They left such a nice little sharpness on your taste buds that only ginger can leave. Its definitely not a cookie to serve to everybody but I think your a fool if you don’t like em because they are just perfect!
The Cookie Tin
We don’t buy presents anymore for family on Christmas (except Reno). For 2 years now I’ve given out boxes or tins of baked goods to family. They only thing in the tin that didn’t come from the cookbook are the round brownies on the lower left of the picture. Those are my own recipe and something that I will share in a later post!
